Parenting is by far one of the most demanding and at the same time, rewarding relationships encountered in our lives. At times it can seem like a free-for-all with little structure and progress. There are no perfect parents, children or families. Many times parents are in error and sometimes it is the children. It is important that families experience the most fulfilling and rewarding relationships possible.
Responsibility struggles are typically at the heart of these relationships and parents need not take on any struggles that are not theirs. Also the child’s errors and difficulties need not come at the expense of the parent. The reciprocal needs to apply – sometimes the parent’s error and difficulties come at the expense of the child.
Counseling offers help to parents and children. At times we work with the parent and at times the child. Family sessions are often suggested – family is at the heart. “The whole is greater than the sum of the parts.”
